Sex Addict or Really High Sex Drive?

High sex drive and sex addiction are two distinct concepts.

A pattern of sexual behavior described as sex addiction—also referred to as hypersexual disorder or compulsive sexual behavior disorder—is defined by a fixation with sex, an inability to control one's urges, and a willingness to continue having sex despite the consequences. Multiple sexual partners, excessive masturbation, pornographic viewing, unsafe sexual conduct, and other activities can all be part of it. Despite the detrimental effects it has on their relationships, careers, and general well-being, people with sex addiction may feel a compulsive desire to engage in these behaviors.

On the other hand, a person with a high sex drive is referred to as having a great desire for sexual engagement. It may just be a characteristic of a person's natural biology or personality and is not necessarily a disorder or an issue as it is absent of negative consequences. While some people may have high sex drives naturally, others may experience high sex drives as a result of hormonal changes or drugs. A high sex drive is generally not a problem unless it is upsetting or negatively affecting the person's life.

In conclusion, a high sex drive is just a strong desire for sexual engagement, whereas sex addiction is an illness marked by an inability to manage sexual behavior.
