1st Session Pre-work

Individual sessions can aid those who are fighting sex addiction, porn addiction, repeated infidelity or compulsive sexual behavior disorder in general. As someone with decades of experience helping people in Boston and around the country to overcome sex addiction, I can tell you that coming into our sessions with a goal in mind, and giving some thought to the following questions, can help you get the most out of your time.

  1. Think about how you'll track your success in achieving your goal(s).

  2. Think about the traits or abilities you want to develop to achieve your goals and the people who can help you along the way.

  3. Consider any underlying causes which may be contributing to your primary problem.

  4. Consider the most crucial topic you'd want to cover in a single session.

  5. Decide what in your life you want to change, why it matters to you, and what you hope to accomplish.

Finally, keep in mind that this is a process and that real change only occurs when you put your newfound knowledge and momentum to use in your regular life.

Feel free to bring up uncomfortable topics as you'll be working with someone who understands the complexities of sex addiction, porn addiction and compylsive sexual behavior and can help you overcome them, all while providing the encouragement and direction you need to make positive changes in your life.

Finally, keep in mind that your recovery and healing process is a journey and that lasting transformation occurs when new understanding and forward motion are integrated into daily life. There are many things you can additionally do outside of 1:1 sessions to keep moving forward in your recovery, such as connecting with a support group, doing something healthy, or learning a new approach to dealing with stress and anxiety.
